    Overall Responsibility

    • The Oncology Coordinator is responsible for administering, organizing, and overseeing all non-clinical aspects of the oncology department. This includes coordinating patient care activities, supporting clinical staff, managing departmental budgets and resources, tracking performance indicators, and ensuring smooth, high-quality service delivery.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Oversee daily operations of the oncology department including clinics, chemotherapy units, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
    • Coordinate patient appointments, referrals, diagnostics, and follow-up to ensure efficient and timely care.
    • Support clinical teams in maintaining compliance with treatment schedules and protocols.
    • Facilitate communication among oncologists, nurses, pharmacists, palliative care providers, and administrative teams.
    • Supervise departmental staff scheduling, leave planning, and duty allocation in collaboration with human resources officer.
    • Ensure adequate availability and timely procurement of chemotherapy drugs, consumables, and equipment in coordination with pharmacy and supply chain teams.
    • Participate in the preparation of the oncology department’s annual budget in collaboration with the finance team.
    • Monitor departmental expenditures against approved budgets to ensure cost control and resource optimization.
    • Analyze cost-effectiveness of services and recommend measures to enhance operational sustainability.
    • Track and report key departmental performance indicators such as patient volumes, treatment turnaround times, adherence to protocols, and patient outcomes.
    • Generate monthly and quarterly performance reports for management review and decision-making.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews and contribute to the development of improvement plans and quality assurance programs.
    • Act as a liaison for patients and families navigating cancer care, ensuring continuous communication and support.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Healthcare Management, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 3 years experience in a clinical or hospital administration role, preferably with exposure to oncology services.
    • Additional training in oncology, health systems management, or project coordination is an advantage.
    • Proven experience in budgeting, financial oversight, or departmental performance tracking.

    • The Palliative Care Specialist will provide comprehensive care to patients with life-limiting illnesses by addressing their physical, emotional and psychosocial needs. The role focuses on improving quality of life, alleviating suffering, and supporting patients and families through serious illness and end-of-life care.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Assess and manage pain and other distressing symptoms such as nausea, breathlessness, anxiety, and fatigue in patients with serious or terminal illnesses.
    • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
    • Provide end-of-life care and guide patients and families in decision-making aligned with their values and goals.
    • Facilitate advanced care planning and ensure that Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) or other directives are respected and implemented.
    • Offer emotional, and psychological support to patients and caregivers facing life-limiting conditions.
    • Conduct family meetings to discuss prognosis, treatment goals, and care preferences.

    • Educate clinical staff on chemotherapy protocols, drug updates, and safe handling procedures.

    • Oversee stock rotation, expiry monitoring, and proper storage conditions for cytotoxic drugs.
    • Participate in regular audits to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
    • Assist in the development and review of oncology formularies, policies, and SOPs.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from a recognized institution.
    • Certification or specialized training in oncology pharmacy is preferred.
    • At least 2 years of clinical pharmacy experience; oncology experience is preferred.
    • Familiarity with chemotherapy protocols and handling of hazardous drugs is essential.
    • Valid practicing license from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board

    • Coordinate referrals for specialized care or advanced diagnostic tests as required.
    • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, including nurses, pharmacists, palliative care teams, surgeons, oncologists and radiologists, to optimize patient care.
    • Assist in the management of patients receiving palliative care, focusing on improving quality of life through symptom control.
    • Participate in public health awareness campaigns and outreach programs to sensitize communities on cancer related issues.
    • Support research initiatives and clinical trials related to cancer treatments.

    Qualifications

    • Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council
