    Job Objective/Purpose

    Provide professional and compassionate maternity nursing service and care to patients, by ensuring their review and treatment as per the Hospital protocols, and nursing standards and practices.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Work with the clinical team to navigate patients through the childbirth journey, offering them quality care by;
      • Ensuring good working relationship with all stakeholders.
      • Ensuring the recording and safe keeping of patient’s valuables
      • Implementing prepartum, intrapartum, post-partum and newborn care plan while prioritizing the patient’s needs in the documented nursing care plan.
      • Educating the patient and their family about their options for treatment, possible side effects, and lifestyle changes that may be needed to support recovery.
      • Ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality is maintained at all times, as per policy.
    • Ensure all nursing protocols have been administered as per the set-out policies and guidelines, recording and reporting all sentinel incidents/events within 24 hours using the provided tools.
    • Constantly Monitoring, assessing and charting a patient's condition and response to treatment and medication, including the patients' physical and psycho-social status, and adjust treatment accordingly.
    • Patient Data and Records:
      • Ensure proper documentation of patient notes and reviews while consulting with fellow nurses and consultants as needed. 
      • Update doctors/ consultants on patient’s progress and any critical values as soon as they are available.
      • Filing of the legal documents on admission.
      • Complete official checklists for all patients prior to procedures.
    • Drug administration and management.
      • Submit all new drug orders to pharmacy promptly and STAT doses given within 30 minutes.
      • Keep all drugs safe and maintain drug register properly per unit requirements.
      • Refund all unused drugs immediately.
      • Ensure all verbal prescriptions are be signed within 24 hours by the respective doctor per the hospital policy.
      • Ensure all treatment sheets have patients' biodata including information on drug allergies.
      • fAdhere to the 10 rights of drug administration (right patient, medication, dosage, route, time, documentation, client education, assessment, evaluation and client refusal of treatment).
    • Actively participate in ward rounds and receive handover reports from the outgoing nurse on shift, while ensuring all the relevant consultants have explained procedures and have obtained consent.
    • Maintain and enforce infection control standards per the hospital manual and observe the infection control bundles (SSI, VAP, CAUTI and CLABSI) where applicable.
    • Ensure patients safety following the 6 International Patient Safety Goals (IPSGs) (patient identification, effective communication, safety of high alert medication, ensure correct site procedure and surgery, reduce the risk of healthcare associated infections, reduce the risk of patient harm resulting from falls)
    • Organize emergency trolley for easy use during resuscitation, ensure drugs and supplies are well stocked, damaged equipment reported promptly, and a checklist kept and updated on the 1st and 16th of every month, or as needed.
    • Ensure the unit is financially viable and demonstrate growth by managing costs within budget through timely and accurate billing of drugs and services and maintaining an invoice rejection rate of < 3% through proper pre-authorization and documentation.
    • Supervise Patient Attendants as per their job description. 
    • Ensure that Avenue Healthcare corporate governance policies are adhered to, including preventing, detecting, and reporting any fraud or criminal activities, and Implementing audit recommendations. 
    • Ensure adequate knowledge of and compliance to all Avenue Healthcare policies, procedures, and systems, especially policies pertaining to the provision of medical services i.e. Admission & discharge procedures, nurses’ reports, ward equipment and supplies, emergency protocols etc.
    • Adhere to Government and respective professional standards of care and treatment of patients as guided by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
    • Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor in line with the job description.

    Person Specification

    • Diploma in Midwifery Nursing
    • A Valid BLS, ACLS, ETAT+ & Emoc Certification.
    • A Valid Nursing License from NCK
    • Minimum of 3 years of working experience in a busy Maternity Ward.
    • Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and a team player.

    Job Objective/Purpose

    Responsible for the implementation of the Organization’s policies through systems and practices that contribute to building the organization’s human capital in line with Company goals

    Key Responsibilities

    • Balance the manpower staffing levels (Permanent, Contract & Locum Staff) for the respective units in liaison with the Senior HR Business Partner
    • Be a first point of contact for staff queries on HR related issues and escalating this to the HR Business Partner when need arises.
    • To deputize with prior authorization by the HR Business Partner as a panel member in selection and recruitment interviews. Keep a record of interviewed candidates and their scores to ensure transparency of the process and for reverting to runners up if the situation so demands.
    • Maintain up to date contracts, licenses for all medical staff, including locum to ensure compliance and accurate data base.
    • In liaison with the Senior HR Business Partner, Provide support in the timely generation and consolidation of HR reports.
    • Maintain and update staff information on the database in HRMIS. Ensure that hard copy personnel files and soft copies are confidentially maintained and any disclosure subject to authorized approval.
    • In liaison with the Senior HR Business Partner, advice and support managers/supervisors on leave management.
    • In liaison with the Senior HR Business Partner, advice line managers and other employees on employment law and the organizations policies.
    • Assist staff to understand their job descriptions, functions, roles & responsibilities, how they fit into the overall organization structure and the criteria for performance evaluation, personal development, and growth. 
    • In liaison with the Senior HR Business Partner, advising line managers and staff on handling of disciplinary issues.
    • In liaison with the Senior HR Business Partner and in consultation with the relevant line managers, ensure payroll data such as staff locum/external locum payment is accurate and timely for dissemination to the payroll department.
    • Responsible for monitoring employee confirmation dates and to proactively follow-up with the relevant managers to ensure conformity with the stipulated policy as may be in place.
    • Assist the Senior HR Business Partner with planning and organizing scheduled training programs.
    • Coordinate with line managers to ensure that new staff/locums are taken through the on-the-job orientation and facilitate scheduled induction programs.
    • Ensure that uniforms & name tags are issued on time per the standard schedule and that when staff exit, these are returned and accounted for
    • Support and coordinate performance cycle by ensuring timely compilation of documentation and reporting.
    • Ensure closure of all Internal Audit Issues per plan to achieve a score of = or > 95%
    • Ensure achievement of Quality Scores of = or > 75%
    • Liaise with the unit managers/branch managers to ensure that all staff annual licenses are processed & renewed in good time.
    • Ensure submission of Standardized Rotas and upload files by 7th of every month, Registration of new staff, coordination and submission of T&A reports

    Person Specification
