Title: DriverDirect Reports: Logistics Team Leader
Location: Liwale, Lindi
Main PurposePerform the tasks of transporting authorized goods and passengers in an MSF vehicle, ensuring its technical and safety conditions, and adhering to the country’s traffic rules and MSF security regulations, to provide a safe, smooth, and efficient service.
Accountabilities- Check daily the technical conditions of the assigned vehicle (state of tires, oil, fuel, brakes, radio equipment, spare parts, etc.), perform weekly checks according to the MSF Logbook, refuel when necessary, and keep it clean to ensure it is in perfect driving condition. Carry out a handover when another person uses the vehicle.
- Ensure the security of passengers in the vehicle, drive carefully, and follow speed limits and traffic rules, as well as MSF security rules, to avoid accidents.
- Ensure that all passengers have necessary papers before traveling and that non-MSF staff sign disclaimers of responsibility before using the vehicle.
- Ensure correct loading and unloading of the vehicle, submit the necessary documents to the receiver of the goods, check the status of delivered goods, return completed documents to logistics, and ensure the goods have the necessary documentation.
- Ensure that all vehicle documents and the driver’s driving license are valid and in the vehicle.
- Inform the line manager of any incidents involving the transportation of passengers and/or goods.
- Be familiar with and use radios, codes, call numbers, and radio alphabets to communicate with the base, informing them of the driver’s position and any potential issues.
- Respect security rules related to vehicle movements, specifically those concerning customs, checkpoints, and roadblocks. Ensure all passengers are aware of and follow the security rules.
MSF has worked intermittently in Tanzania since 1993, supporting the Ministry of Health (MoH) in various areas, including primary and secondary healthcare and epidemic responses (such as cholera, malaria, and HIV/AIDS). MSF’s most recent intervention began in May 2015 in response to a cholera outbreak in Kigoma region, expanding medical and water/sanitation activities across all three refugee camps.
The Liwale project, launched in December 2022, is an integrated initiative that supports MoH in community-based primary and secondary healthcare for mothers and children under 5. MSF currently supports 7 health facilities, including 4 secondary health care facilities (1 district hospital and 3 health centers), and 3 primary health care facilities offering BEmONC and CEmONC services.
Minimum Educational Qualifications- Essential literacy
- Essential valid Tanzanian driving license, type C1
- Essential: At least 2 years of previous driving experience
- Desirable: Experience with 4×4 vehicles used in MSF or other NGOs
- Desirable: Basic knowledge of mechanics
- Good knowledge of the mission area’s roads, particularly in Liwale district, would be an added advantage.
