Responsibilities
OPERATIONS & FINANCES
- Ensure that the organization adheres to all legal and financial responsibilities as it relates legal registration, tax payments, audits and other regulatory filings.
- Maintain up-to-date member databases; internal and prospective member contact list, and marketing lists for member events
- Develop monthly, quarterly and annual financial plans and reports, with Board of Directors (“Board”) input, to ensure that the Board and Membership are up-to-date on its financial status.
- Present monthly and yearly financial reports with agreed KPls at Board meetings
- Assist the Board with projects and management oversight e.g., relationship management, events, public policy, member recruitment, finances, and advocacy
- Assist with and facilitate annual audits with the Chamber auditor
- Handle relevant business correspondence and communication
MARKETING & MEMBER OUTREACH
- Serve as the main point of contact – in person, phone, website,and email, for current and prospective members and prospective members’ issues and queries
- Manage all communications with the membership and ensure that members’ queries and requests are addressed in a timely manner
- Develop and execute plans to maintain or increase membership in organization
- Maintain website, manage outreach to members and prospective members, send periodic newsletters/updates, and manage social media (Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Linkedln, etc.)
RELATIONSHIPS
Manage and maintain positive and credible relationship with key stakeholders such as:
- The Board
- New, potential, and existing members
- US Investors, visiting US companies
- Government of Tanzania
- US embassy in Tanzania and other US agencies
- Tanzanian embassies/consulates abroad
- Other local and international chambers and business organizations
- Sponsors
- Media
EVENTS
- Facilitate and organize all Client events, from large conferences and informal networking events to high-level roundtables, workshops, seminars and other social events
- Secure sponsorships for events, as necessary
GROWTH STRATEGY
- Identify, recruit, and capture new memberships to grow organization’s membership numbers and revenues
- Identify important developments with respect to changes in the business environment and investment climate for inclusion in organization’s advocacy efforts and member services
- Oversee the expansion of member services as the needs and administrative capacity of organization grow
- Develop a Strategic Plan for each upcoming calendar year by December 15 of the prior year with input from the Board
ADVOCACY
- Engage with U.S. and Tanzanian public and private sector on behalf of organization
- Maintain strategic relationships with other local and international business and professional organizations
- Lead public policy and advocacy efforts on behalf of organization
- Draft and circulate policy briefs and white papers, as required by the Board and members
Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, International Relations, Public Policy, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in operations, finance, business development, or organizational management, preferably within a membership-based organization, chamber of commerce, or international NGO.
- Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, event planning, and membership recruitment and retention.
- Experience managing websites, newsletters, and social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, etc.).
- Familiarity with donor reporting, regulatory compliance, and strategic planning.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to represent the organization to high-level stakeholders.
- Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and diplomacy.
- Knowledge of Tanzanian business environment, regulatory landscape, and public-private sector dynamics.
- Understanding of US–Tanzania trade and investment relations is highly desirable.
