    JOB PURPOSE

    • The position will provide electrical design of substation and distribution systems for capital projects and renovations of existing and new facilities, with a strong emphasis on integrating international standards and practices. He/she also will provide services to the department in the form of plan development, specification writing, estimating, field investigations and project management

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Coordinate the Design and development of electrical schematics, diagrams, and drawings using industry-standard software and tools.
    • Coordinate technical and feasibility studies and draw up blueprints for MV lines, substations and other buildings that satisfy technical specifications
    • Ensure the implementation of an accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including design specifications, bills of materials, and test reports.
    • Assess potential risks, materials and costs
    • Ensure that designs comply with relevant safety and industry regulations.
    • Compiling job specifications and supervising tendering procedures 
    • Conduct the preparation of contracts
    • Monitor progress and compile reports in project status
    • Comply with guidelines and regulations including permits, safety etc and deliver technical files and other technical documentation as required
    • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering to drive continuous improvement in our designs.
    • Coordinate the preparation of the monthly report of operations activities
    • Track, record and evaluate employee performance
    • Coordinate and participate in the implementation of the security and environmental policy within the unit
    • Manage the unit's OPEX budget and resources
    • Participate in all other activities at the request of the hierarchy (seminar, budget conference, etc.)
    • Organize continuity of service in the unit
    • Incorporate international best practices in the design and execution of electrical substation and distribution line projects.

    KEY COMPETENCIES

    • Proven working experience in electrical engineering
    • Project management and supervision skills
    • Proficiency in electrical design software.
    • Strong knowledge of MV/LV lines and substation electrical components and their applications.
    • Knowledge of MV/LV lines and substation design and layout.
    • Knowledge of grid load flow, transient and short circuit analysis.
    • Knowledge of distribution protection design
    • Skilled with electrical simulation software and tools.
    • Knowledge of industry regulations and standards.
    • Experience with re-engineering existing assets to meet specific requirements and specifications.
    • Write professional documents (reports, letters, meeting minutes, etc.).
    • Demonstrated ability to apply global standards and practices in substation and distribution line engineering.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

    Experience

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience as Electrical design Engineer or design Team Leader, Experience on network design with PLS CADD is an asset.
    • Minimum of 2 years of international experience in electrical engineering or involvement in projects across multicultural environments.

    Skills

    • Thorough understanding of electrical engineering principles, practices, and tools.
    • Proficient in computer-assisted design (CAD) and other design,
    • Thorough understanding of safety regulations related to assigned projects.
    • Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
    • Ability to be both creative and analytical.
    • Extremely detail-oriented and accurate.
    • Solid math and analytical skills.
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
    • The ability to meet tight deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
    • Decision-making ability, conflict resolution.
    • Use office tools (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
    • Use digital tools (Teams, Social networks, Skype, etc.)

    Languages (Proficiency Level)

    • French – Advanced (fluent in both written and spoken communication).
    • English – Intermediate (proficient in both written and spoken communication).
    • Kirundi – Basic (basic understanding or ability to communicate in common phrases).

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • This position is predominantly performed in a professional office environment but may need to be performed in a field environment which includes exposure to environmental conditions (hot, cold, and inclement weather) chemicals, fumes or airborne particles. The role will primarily be performed in Bujumbura, Burundi.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • This position is primarily sedentary and must be able to lift and carry up to 10 kg.
