Job Purpose:
Operating Water treatment plant which includes operation of raw water pumps, water clarification plant, water filtration with Multimedia filters, Supply filtered water as per plant demand, Operate Reverse Osmosis Plant, Demineralized water plant, Portable water production as Per SOP at minimum parameters as per plant design and ensuring boiler makeup water is at quality minimum requirements.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure proper usage of chemicals and all facilities at the plant as recommended to reduce cost of running the plant.
- Operate and assist on maintenance of various equipment, including pumps, decanters, filters, RO and EDI, Centrifugal systems decanting, dosing systems ensuring they are running optimally.
- Adjust and control treatment processes to meet water quality standards for boiler water and potable water.
- Ensure plant operate safely and all tasks must be performed according to Kilombero Sugar’s Quality, Safety, Health and Environment policies and procedures.
- Monitor key parameters such as pH, turbidity in real time and take appropriate & timely action this includes Conducting regular testing of water samples to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Performing safe loading of chemicals to containers and record the quantity loaded and chemical specification.
- Operating a centrifugal decanter as per SOP thus increase lifetime and reduced maintenance costs of a centrifugal decanter.
- Ensure hourly sample taking from recommended points and analysis of the water quality by using the test kit chemicals, record all parameters on the log book.
- Ensure proper housekeeping around plant area and all chemical dosing facilities.
- Ensure inspection is done daily around water treatment plant and report any abnormalities.
- Ensure Clean in Place (CIP) is done to all filters at water treatment plant i.e. multimedia filters, microfilters, reverse osmosis train and electro deionization stage as recommended.
- Ensure Records of useful information on logbook i.e. water flowrate and its usage, Chemical usage during preparation for proper control etc.
- Timely report any situation that is non-conforming to required standards to line manager.
- All tasks must be performed with “awareness” towards the prevention of any forms of pollution to the surrounding and environment.
- Carries out any other requested duties relating to the plant.
Job Qualification and Experience:
- Diploma/Certificate in Water Supply & Sanitation, Water Technology or equivalent from any recognized Institution.
- Safe handling/use of water treatment chemicals.
- Knowledge of water sources and their qualities.
- Method of water purification and filtration.
- Knowledge of sampling & measurement of alkalinity & pH, turbidity & residual chlorine.
- Terms of Service: The successful candidate will be engaged on a Permanent contract.
