PROJECT OVERVIEW
The purpose of the USAID NextGen Ugavi Bora, Afya Bora activity is to strengthen Tanzania’s public health supply chain and pharmaceutical services to ensure sustainable access to and appropriate use of safe, effective, quality-assured, affordable health commodities. USAID NextGen Ugavi Bora, Afya Bora activity must work to develop the capacity of local systems, institutions, and individuals to sustainably manage supply chains, for both USAID-procured health commodities and those procured through national/local systems, and to strengthen local pharmaceutical management systems, including quality pharmaceutical services and national regulatory systems.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Private Sector Data and Innovation Specialist will play a critical role in strengthening Tanzania’s public health supply chain and pharmaceutical services, focusing on private sector engagement, data systems, and digital innovation. The Specialist will lead efforts to collaborate with private sector actors, improve data visibility and use, and leverage innovative solutions to enhance supply chain and pharmaceutical management systems. This role aligns with USAID NextGen Ugavi Bora, Afya Bora’s strategic objective of building sustainable, locally led supply chains and pharmaceutical services by integrating private sector innovations and insights.
This is a full time position with an initial contract through September 2025 and the possibility of a one-year extension subject to continued funding.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Private Sector Engagement:
Develop and manage partnerships with private sector supply chain actors, pharmaceutical providers, and digital health innovators.
Identify opportunities for private sector collaboration to strengthen health commodity supply chains and pharmaceutical services.
Support mapping and assessment of private sector supply chain practices, identifying gaps and areas for innovation.
Data Systems and Analytics:
Strengthen private sector data collection, reporting, and use to improve supply chain visibility, forecasting, and decision-making.
Support integration of private sector data into national supply chain monitoring systems.
Design, implement, and support innovative data solutions (dashboards, analytics platforms, interoperability solutions) to enhance supply chain performance and pharmaceutical services.
Innovation and Digital Health:
- Identify, pilot, and scale innovative digital solutions within the private sector supply chain and pharmaceutical management ecosystem.
- Work closely with digital health partners to align innovation initiatives with national strategies and frameworks.
- Contribute to the creation of a learning agenda on private sector innovations in supply chain management.
Capacity Strengthening and Sustainability:
- Build capacity of local private sector partners in data management, digital innovation, and pharmaceutical management practices.
- Support knowledge sharing and best practices dissemination across private and public sectors.
Promote sustainable local ownership of supply chain innovations and digital systems.
Coordination and Reporting:
- Collaborate closely with the government, USAID, and implementing partners to ensure coordinated efforts.
- Prepare regular reports, presentations, and knowledge products showcasing private sector engagement, data use, and innovations.
- Participate in relevant working groups, technical committees, and stakeholder meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, pharmacy, data science, supply chain management, information systems, or related field. At least 3 years of professional experience in private sector engagement, supply chain management, data systems, or digital health innovation in Tanzania or similar settings.
- Proven experience using data visualization and analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms to support decision-making.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R for data analysis, reporting, and automation tasks.
- Demonstrated experience working with private sector actors in healthcare, particularly in supply chain or pharmaceutical services.
- Strong knowledge of health supply chain data systems, analytics, and interoperability standards.
- Familiarity with digital health ecosystems, health informatics, and innovation management.
- Excellent skills in stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and partnership building.
- Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills in English; proficiency in Kiswahili preferred.
- Prior experience with USAID-funded projects or other donor-funded programs is an advantage.
