Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) is an agency under the Ministry of Works, responsible for developing and maintaining the trunk and regional roads network in Tanzania Mainland. Additionally, TANROADS is responsible for conducting axle load control operations and airport construction.

Construction Projects

The Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS), on behalf of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, entered into a contract for the construction of the Isyeto Box Culvert (5x3m) with 2 cells and the Lufilyo Bridge (40m span) along with the Relief Box Culvert (5x3m, 1 cell) and road approaches (2.0km) on the Bulongwa-Madihani-Kidope and Madihani-Lufilyo roads.

Recruitment of Qualified Staff

The Regional Manager’s Office of TANROADS – Njombe, on behalf of the Chief Executive of TANROADS, intends to recruit qualified and competent staff to fill the following vacant positions for specific duties on a short-term contract to supervise the works contract. Successful applicants must be ready to work for considerable lengths of time in the Njombe District within the project area, as situations warrant.

Terms and Conditions of Service

Appointments will be on a contract basis for twelve (12) months from January 2025, subject to satisfactory performance, efficiency, and effectiveness.

1 . Position Title: Personal Secretary (1 Post)

Entry Qualifications:

  • Tanzanian citizen with a diploma in Secretarial Studies or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • At least three years of experience in the related field.

Educational/Professional Qualifications:

  • Certificate in Secretarial Services or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Must possess National Form IV or VI certificates.
  • Must have passed typing/shorthand speed of not less than 60/80 w.p.m.
  • Secretarial NTA Level 6 from a recognized institution.
  • Excellent word processing and spreadsheet skills.

Competence:

  • Must be computer literate.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work under pressure outside working hours with minimum supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Typing confidential memos, letters, reports, and other documents.
  • Managing the Project Manager’s diary and appointments.
  • Receiving and connecting customers/clients/guests to officers.
  • Ensuring quality production of booklets and reports.
  • Record keeping and retrieval.
  • Taking/writing minutes.
  • Perform other secretarial duties as assigned by supervisors.

2 . Position Title: CAD Technician (1 Post)

Entry Qualifications:

  • Tanzanian citizen with a diploma in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, Land Surveying, Cartography, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • At least three years of experience in road construction projects, particularly with consulting firms.
  • Must have a certificate in CAD.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare drawings and sketches in collaboration with other staff related to road or bridge design.
  • Liaise with the Highway Engineer for sketches or drawing improvements on road/bridge design.

3 . Position Title: Assistant Land Surveyor (1 Post)

Entry Qualifications:

  • Tanzanian citizen with a diploma in Land Surveying or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • At least three years of working experience in the related field.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparation and sketches, maps, and reports of works performed.
  • Assist in reviewing survey data for accuracy, including measurements and calculations.
  • Record the results of surveys, including shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions.
  • Assist in determining specifications for aerial photography.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Competence:

  • Must be computer literate.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work under pressure outside working hours with minimum supervision.

4 . Position Title: Sociologist (1 Post)

Entry Qualifications:

  • Holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Social Welfare Psychology, Sociology, Guidance and Counselling, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.

Competence:

  • Must be computer literate.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work under pressure outside working hours with minimum supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate local community participation in road maintenance and development.
  • Conduct social impact assessments (SA) of projects.
  • Prepare resettlement plans.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

5 . Position Title: Environmental Officer (1 Post)

Entry Qualifications:

  • Holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Environmental Science and Management, Environmental Planning and Management, Geography and Environmental Studies, or an equivalent qualification from any recognized institution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct environmental research on road maintenance and development.
  • Update the environmental management procedures for the roads sector.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments for road projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Competence:

  • Must be computer literate.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work under pressure outside working hours with minimum supervision.

Terms of Service: Specified contract for one year or more.

Salary: TANROADS salary scale with site allowances as per the TANROADS incentive policy.
