The Role:

 

Marie Stopes Tanzania has an exciting opportunity for an organized and proactive individual looking to work as The Advocacy and Communication Officer, based in Dar es Salaam.

Reporting to Advocacy and Communication Manager, the purpose of this role is to implement the Marie Stopes Tanzania [MST] Advocacy activities including executing annual business plans and operationalizing the Country Advocacy Strategy. The role involves coordinating advocacy meetings, representing MST in coalition engagements, networks and implementing advocacy campaigns.

Among the Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support the development of the organization’s advocacy strategy and lead on delivery of agreed advocacy objectives:
  • Support the Advocacy Team in the process of developing and agreeing the organization’s advocacy strategy
  • Use insights into the political environment to inform the organization’s advocacy actions.
  • Develop policy positions and other useful resources in relation to the advocacy objectives.
  1. Partners Engagement:
  • Build mutually beneficial partnership and coordinate work with other networks and allies in the field of health and human rights in Tanzania to inform our work and maximize the chance of securing advocacy wins.
  • Motivate and coordinate members to maximize their engagement and use of own organizational capacity and voice.
  • Develop activities and workplans with external partner members in accordance with MSI’s partnership principles.
  1. Communication:
  • Develop advocacy messages to effectively communicate MST’s mission and objectives.
  • Implement the relevant areas of the media strategy to achieve advocacy and communication objectives.
  • Collaborate with external agencies or consultants to produce high-quality communication materials including policy beliefs and social media contents.
  1. Development of funding proposals and reports relating to the organization’s advocacy:
  • Participate in the process of the development of concept notes and project proposals which will form the basis of funding submissions.
  • To collect information and compile narrative reports on work undertaken to donors or relevant partners.

About You:

To succeed in this role, you must be/have:

  • Degree in Mass Communication/Public Relations/Social Sciences or equivalent qualification.
  • At least three years of previous experience in advocacy, communications, media relations.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of how to successfully communicate and engage with the public.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of working for SRHR an added advantage.
  • Prior experience coordinating and working with coalitions or advocacy networks.
