Exciting Career Opportunity: Board Member at Vodacom Tanzania
Vodacom Tanzania, the country’s leading communications company, serving over 19.6 million customers, is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to join the Board as an Independent Non-Executive Director. The company offers voice, data, messaging, financial services, and enterprise solutions to both consumers and businesses, driving innovation and connectivity across Tanzania.
The successful candidate will be expected to assess the effectiveness of the Board in fulfilling its responsibilities and meeting its obligations. The role involves appointing and overseeing the Managing Director, assessing their performance, ensuring proper compensation, and participating in the process of their replacement, as well as planning for succession of the role and other senior management positions. The Board member will also provide effective leadership in collaboration with the management team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and approving management’s strategic and organizational plans.
- Reviewing and approving Vodacom’s financial objectives, plans, and actions, including significant expenditures.
- Facilitating the establishment of appropriate corporate governance structures.
- Reviewing and approving Vodacom’s annual budget as proposed by the management team.
- Identifying, understanding, and effectively managing key strategic risks while monitoring them through risk management processes.
- Monitoring corporate performance against strategic and tactical plans.
- Reviewing and approving material transactions outside the ordinary course of business.
Academic/Professional Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, marketing, actuarial science, economics, law, ICT, fintech, engineering, human resources, or a related field.
- Post-graduate qualification in a business-related field will be an added advantage.
- At least 10 years’ experience as a director of a medium to large company with business development focus and a proven track record in business turnaround.
- More than 5 years’ experience as a board member and of a board committee.
- Board leadership experience with a listed company would be an added advantage.
- Thorough understanding of financial management, regulatory compliance, board management, with demonstrable commercial and investment acumen.
- Knowledge of the financial services industry or corporate finance experience will be an added advantage.
- Be a highly networked individual capable of building and maintaining relationships beneficial to the organization.
- Not involved in any activities or relationships that could constitute a material conflict of interest to serve as an independent director with Vodacom.
