GIZ supports the EAC in achieving a market-driven, people-centred East African Community integration by strengthening the sustainable economic and social development of the EAC through partnership building, digital innovations, skills development, facilitation, and expertise. As part of the German Development Cooperation, GIZ has developed and implements various projects in the field of technical cooperation in support of EAC integration. Responsibilities and Tasks
Supporting Impact Communication on Cluster Level
- Develops and updates branding materials for the cluster; these include cluster brand, digital presentation, brochures, newsletters, fact sheets, banners, etc.
- Designs visually engaging communication products such as infographics, reports, presentations, and interactive event materials in line with respective branding guidelines.
- Develops multimedia content including short videos, animations, and interactive formats to effectively communicate complex topics to diverse audiences.
- Explores and implements innovative communication tools and digital storytelling techniques to increase outreach and stakeholder engagement across the region.
- Updates the EAC-Germany website and social media channels; develops news articles, success stories, and posts for social media channels in collaboration with project communication focal persons in the cluster and the cluster communication advisor; actively contributes to the quarterly publishing of a newsletter targeted at GIZ Country Offices/Regional Projects, BMZ, and EU in collaboration with the cluster communication advisor.
- Contributes actively to the cluster communications working group, liaises with the responsible colleagues in the cluster, and advises the project communication focal persons in the cluster through regular circle-exchanges on the development of communication material and content.
- Conceptualises and supports events, workshops, and campaigns, providing communication inputs such as media kits, branding materials, and coverage.
- Monitors and evaluates communication activities and media coverage and provides regular reports and recommendations for improvements.
- Manages external consultancies/short-term experts and assures monitoring and quality of the products of the assignments according to contract.
Organisational Development and Outreach
- Advises the EAC Secretariat on impact communication and other matters related to organisational procedures.
Cross-Cutting Cluster Functions
- Supports project management in the reporting of project achievements and its impact to GIZ and BMZ.
- Supports cross-cluster activities such as preparation and reporting of steering meetings.
Education and Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, media studies, public relations, journalism, graphic design, or a related field.
- Working experience in strategic communications, public relations, or media work, preferably in an international or regional cooperation context.
- Strong skills in graphic design and proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) or similar tools.
- Proven experience in producing multimedia content, including video editing, animation, and digital storytelling.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing communication strategies and managing multi-channel communication campaigns.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to adapt content for different audiences and platforms.
- Working experience with ITC technologies and computer applications (e.g., MS Office, MS Teams, SAP, or other database programmes).
- Familiarity with the East African Community (EAC) regional integration context and experience working with regional institutions is an added advantage.
- Working experience with German Development Cooperation on communicating benefits of regional integration is an added advantage.
- Strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, multicultural environment.
- Excellent knowledge of English; Kiswahili and German are an added advantage.
