Overall objective of the assignment
To build the capacity of electrical trainers at Don Bosco Boys Town by delivering a comprehensive 5-day Training of Trainers (ToT) between 9th June 2025 and 13th June 2025 on Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), equipping them with both theoretical knowledge and practical teaching strategies that reflect current industry standards in industrial automation.
Specific Consultant Tasks
The Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) Consultant shall:
- Facilitate a 5-day workshop on PLCs, covering key topics: Introduction to PLCs, PLC Hardware Components, Basics of PLC Programming Languages, PLC Input and Output Devices, and Hands-on Ladder Logic Programming, Troubleshooting, and Maintenance.
- Deliver basic theoretical instruction and practical hands-on training on PLCs.
- Support trainers in developing assignments, revision tools, and project-based learning content on PLCs.
- Provide a detailed workplan for implementation during the Training of Trainers (TOT) session.
- Produce a 2-page report summarizing the training outcomes and recommendations.
Methodology
The Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) consultant is expected to:
- Use participatory facilitation methods and group assignments to deliver the content.
- Demonstrate practical simulations using industry standards.
- Guide collaborative development of learning materials.
- Facilitate reflective sessions for trainers to contextualize PLC teaching in the apprenticeship program.
Key Deliverables
The consultant should provide:
- A step-by-step training manual on PLCs for trainers.
- Structured assignments and practical exercises co-developed with the trainers on PLCs.
- Recommendations on how to integrate PLC tasks into workplace-based learning
- A two-page training report summarizing the process, achievements, gaps, and next steps.
Time frame
- The consultant will work for 5 days between 9th June 2025 and 13th June 2025. The consultant will also submit a two-page training report summarizing the process, achievements, gaps, and next steps by 30th June 2025.

Qualifications Required
- A diploma or a bachelor's degree in the relevant field.
- Minimum of 5 years relevant technical professional experience in PLCs.
- Strong knowledge of electrical automation systems and industry-aligned teaching practices on PLC
- Strong knowledge of Kenyan TVET programs and dual training models preferred
- Excellent facilitation and reporting skills.
Reporting
The consultant will report to the Principal Don Bosco Boys Technical Training Institute
Ownership
DBBT will have the intellectual property rights of the paper generated from this assignment. However, the consultant may share in full or in part or a modified version of the papers, as appropriate, with the written consent of DBBT.
