    Overall objective of the assignment

    To build the capacity of plumbing trainers at Don Bosco Boys Town by delivering a comprehensive 5-day Training of Trainers (ToT) between 21st July 2025 and 25th July 2025 on welding, equipping them with both theoretical knowledge and practical teaching strategies that reflect current industry standards in industrial automation.

    Specific Consultant Tasks

    The welding consultant shall:

    • Facilitate a 5-day workshop on welding, covering key topics: introduction to Arc Welding and Gas Welding, Types of Arc Welding and gas welding joints, PIPE joining principles on both arc and gas welding, defect identification and troubleshooting.
    • Deliver theoretical instruction and practical hands-on training on welding.
    • Support trainers in developing assignments, revision tools, and project-based learning content on welding.
    • Provide a detailed workplan for implementation during the Training of Trainers (TOT) session.
    • Provide mentorship and guidance on embedding industry-relevant welding learning outcomes into classroom practice.
    • Produce a 2- page report summarizing the training outcomes and recommendations.

    Methodology

    The welding consultant is expected to:

    • Use participatory facilitation methods, case studies, and group assignments to deliver the welding content.
    • Demonstrate practical simulations using industry-standard welding training manuals.
    • Guide collaborative development of learning materials on Welding.
    • Facilitate reflective sessions for trainers to contextualize welding teaching in the program.

    Key Deliverables

    The welding consultant should provide:

    1. A step-by-step training manual on welding for trainers.
    2. Structured assignments and practical exercises co-developed with the trainers on welding.
    3. Recommendations on how to integrate welding tasks into workplace-based learning.
    4. A two-page training report summarizing the process, achievements, gaps, and next steps.

     Time frame

    The consultant will work for 5 days between 21st July 2025 and 25th July 2025. The consultant should submit a two-page training report summarizing the process, achievements, gaps, and next steps by 7th August 2025. 

    *NB: Please note that the timelines of the consultancy are subject to change as the project proceeds, subject to confirmation from the principal (DBBTTI), Project Manager and Swisscontact.

    Qualifications Required

    • A diploma or a bachelor's degree in the relevant field.
    • Minimum of 5 years of relevant technical professional experience in the welding industry.
    • Strong  knowledge of welding using industry-aligned teaching practices.
    • Strong knowledge of Kenyan TVET programs and dual training models preferred.
    • Excellent facilitation and reporting skills.

    Reporting

    The consultant will report to the Principal Don Bosco Boys Technical Training Institute. 

    Ownership

    DBBT will have the intellectual property rights of the paper generated from this assignment. However, the consultant may share in full or part or a modified version of the papers, as appropriate, with the written consent of DBBT.
