Haven of Peace Academy (HOPAC) is a K-12 school in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania located in the tropics on the east coast of Africa with a gorgeous view of the Indian Ocean. HOPAC began in 1994 by missionaries and quickly expanded. We now have just over 400 students from 15+ countries. We serve missionary kids, Tanzanian students (our demographic majority), and expatriate students, offering an international curriculum (Cambridge) taught from a Biblical worldview.

Job Summary:

The Counselor role is a crucial one in terms of assessing students, families providing emotional and learning support, and advising school leadership on bigger picture issues relating to student emotional health and safety. The Counselor is responsible for actively engaging students (K-12), staff and the wider school community in promoting a positive learning environment within the school by providing mental health services that are in line with the school’s Christian worldview. Learning support department working with the counseling department has expanded hence needs expansion. This position is not limited to just the hours of the school day.

General Responsibilities:

– Responsible for the delivery of comprehensive mental health services K-12

– Expand the counseling services in the school

– Work closely with the learning support team

– Participate as part of the Leadership team

– Provide counseling to students and teachers who may need it

– Coordinate and oversee the life skills program for Grades 11 and 12

– Provide child safety course to parents, who will need it Coordinate and oversee safe touch lessons in lower primary

– Attend in-service meetings and conferences to develop professional attitudes and skills

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field

Experience working with children in a counseling and sociology capacity

Experience in an international or cross-cultural environment
