Job Overview
Tanganyika Plywood Limited is seeking to recruit a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing the Veneer Peeling machines, Boiler, Dryer, Composing line, Hot Press and DD Saw for optimal performance and safety. This position requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality work. Foreign nationals are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Comply with all health, safety and environmental standards, guidelines and instructions
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on the Boiler, Dryer, Composing line, Hot Press and DD Saw to achieve maximum plant availability
- Utilize your expertise in mechanical fitting, pneumatics, hydraulics to ensure optimal performance and reliability of machinery
- Set up and operate various machines, such as lathes, milling and drilling machines
- Planning and submitting requisitions for spares and ensuring all critical spares have contingent spares in stores
- Responsible for diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment in the factory based on observation and applying knowledge from past experience
- Attending to breakdowns urgently to avoid loss of production time
- Responsible for housekeeping and safety of the mechanical workshop
- Work closely with other team members and departments to ensure smooth operations
- Interpret technical blueprints and schematics to ensure accurate assembly and repair
Qualifications and experience
- Certificate in Mechanical Fitting and turning or Diploma or equivalent education qualification in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 5 years in a manufacturing environment
- Apprentice trained is an added advantage
- Proven experience as a mechanical fitter working with boilers, dryers, hydraulics, pneumatics, fans, pumps and conveyors is an added advantage
- Proficient in using hand and power tools.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift heavy objects and work in physically demanding environments.
