Packhouse Manager (Sorting Plant)

Job Purpose:
- To manage and coordinate daily operations at TakaTaka Solutions’ Material Recovery Facilities, ensuring efficient sorting, baling, storage, and dispatch of recyclable materials. The MRF Manager is responsible for achieving operational targets, maintaining safety and quality standards, improving process efficiency, and leading a motivated and high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Oversight
- Oversee and manage daily sorting activities across various waste streams: mixed waste, plastics, glass, pig food, and others.
- Supervise MRF supervisors and ensure effective team coordination across multiple MRF locations.
- Ensure efficient baling and storage of sorted materials for dispatch or sale.
Process Optimization
- Monitor and optimize sorting, baling, and material flow processes to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
- Track and report on Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) and other operational KPIs.
- Identify areas for improvement and lead implementation of solutions to enhance throughput and material quality.
Inventory & Quality Control
- Conduct regular stock takes of baled materials and equipment usage.
- Ensure sorted outputs meet quality specifications for internal processing or sale.
- Maintain proper documentation and labeling of all sorted and baled materials.
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain accurate daily records of materials sorted, baled, and dispatched.
- Prepare and submit routine reports on plant performance, efficiency, and operational challenges.
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Compliance
- Enforce strict adherence to TTS health, safety, and environmental protocols.
- Conduct daily safety briefings and ensure all staff are equipped with and properly using PPE.
- Address and resolve safety issues promptly, promoting a safety-first culture.
Team Leadership & Development
- Train, mentor, and motivate MRF staff to improve productivity, teamwork, and adherence to SOPs.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and offer constructive feedback.
- Promote gender-inclusive practices and a respectful work environment.
Sales and Client Coordination
- Coordinate with the sales team to ensure timely sale and dispatch of recyclable materials (excluding plastics and organics).
- Maintain strong relationships with buyers and recyclers to ensure consistent demand for materials.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma or Degree in Environmental Science, Waste Management, Industrial Operations, or a related field.
- At least 3–5 years of hands-on experience in plant or facility operations, preferably in recycling or manufacturing.
- Proven experience supervising diverse operational teams.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Operational knowledge of sorting and baling processes and equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and facility management tools.
- Familiarity with HSE standards and regulatory compliance in industrial settings.
- Ability to stay informed about recycling industry trends and best practices.
