Position Overview
The Sanitation and Hygiene Promoter is responsible for measurably improve the quality of life for vulnerable children and families by using Lifewater International’s Vision of a Healthy Village (VHV) strategy and ensuring effective sanitation and hygiene promotion and sustained behavioral change at the household level, and communities and schools. S/he is responsible for leading a team of WASH Facilitators at household-level in WASH promotion, and supporting WASH transformation in Communities, Schools, Health facility and Community Based Water Supply Organizations (CBWSOs).
The Sanitation and Hygiene Promoter’s primary responsibilities include:
- Community-level Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) promotion
- Coach and support WASH Facilitators to reach every household in their target communities with VHV programs, including vulnerable households.
- Register Healthy Homes.
- Support the SHC in school level WASH promotion
- Support Community Based Water Supply Organizations (CBWSOs) in target communities.
- Review the appropriateness and effectiveness of the sanitation and hygiene strategies and provide recommendations to SHC accordingly.
- Gathering and documenting stories as per Lifewater International guidelines and sharing them with SHC Water and Sanitation Infrastructures weekly status reports.
- Participate in program evaluations, including conducting baseline and end line studies.
KEY INDICATORS OF SUCCESS:
- 100% of communities in target population have participated in SHC/SHP-led community conversation each month
- 100% of vulnerable households are supported in the target population.
- 100% of households monitored each month
- 90% of households become Healthy Homes by end of intensive phase
- 90% of Community Based Water Supply Organizations (CBWSOs) functional
- 90% of villages attain Open Defecation Free certification
Work Experience and Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- University degree preferably in any one of the following fields: Social Work, Social Sciences, Community Psychology, Social Development, Community Development, Education and Public Health.
- Experience in leading community- and household-level training (for example with a non-governmental organization, as a government health worker, as a school teacher
- Knowledge of WASH promotion methods such as CLTS or PHAST preferred but not required.
- Ability to ride motorcycle and have a valid driving license.
- Experience using smart phones apps.
- Must be willing to work and serve rural communities and stay closer to the community we serve.
- Must be fluent in English & Swahili. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Shinyanga communities will be an added advantage.
