    Job Objective/Purpose

    To provide safe and competent general quality care to patients. Treat patients with dignity, respect their privacy and be involved in the decision making related to their care. Always maintaining safe practice and safe environment for the patient.  

    Key Responsibilities

    • Maintain Surgical services in accordance with Cath lab Operating Room competency standards. 
    • Observes and enforces strict standards of asepsis in the Cath. lab.  
    • Responsible for managing the quality care within the Cath. lab by observing and assisting the team in creating and maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment. 
    • Takes-care of instruments through checking, cleaning, oiling, reprocessing and storage of instruments as per policy guideline.
    • Timely reporting, and follow-up of nonfunctional equipment\instrument to the manager. 
    • Records all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms. 
    • Practices proper methods of infection prevention and control such as disinfection, observing sterility methods and proper waste disposal
    • Assist with transfer of patients in time for operations, and safe transition back to recovery room/ward 
    • Ensure patients needs are met promptly, and  ensure patients safety in a clean  and tidy environment

    Job Objective/Purpose

    Responsible for ensuring quality care within the unit and must adhere to Avenue Healthcare’s defined policies, protocols, procedures and standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    • The Nurse in charge will perform the following people management duties as guided by Avenue HR policies and in coordination with the HR Department;
      • Efficient staffing - Liaise with the Nursing Services Manager/HR to ensure optimal staff levels including reallocation of staff depending on staffing needs, as well as efficient use of overtimes and locums.
      • Identify training gaps and liaise with the Nursing Services Manager/HR to facilitate training.
      • Regular staff engagement and monthly staff meetings with documented evidence of attendance eg. minutes
      • Reward, recognition and discipline - Ensure that deserving staff are recognized/rewarded and disciplinary action (with proper cause) is undertaken without undue delay and per defined policies
      • Ensure staff are well groomed; have their respective uniform, name tags etc
    • Ensure that the unit has the following required resources;
      • Collaborate with the NSM/HR to ensure that there is an updated locum pool
      • Ensure proper inventory of the available equipment on a daily basis and ensure that they are in good working condition. Report any malfunction to Bio-Medical Technician/NSM.

    • Ensure prioritization of patient needs in a documented nursing care plan.
    • Keep emergency trolley organized for easy use during resuscitation, drugs and supplies are well stocked, damaged equipment is removed promptly. A checklist should be kept and updated on the 1st    and 16th of every month.
    • Ensure that doctors/consultants are updated on patient’s progress and critical values in a timely manner
    • Provides leadership in improving patient care, maintaining standards of care, directing and teaching personnel in a variety of setting.

    Operational Oversight:

    Job Objective/Purpose

     

    As a member of a multidisciplinary team the post holder will have responsibility for the nursing assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care .  In the absence of the Senior Sister / Senior Charge Nurse or Sister/Charge you will effectively and efficiently manage the resources available to care for patients on the shift. 

    Key Responsibilities

    • Using the Nursing Process, organize and coordinate nursing care by prioritising care for the critically ill patients based his/her assessment data. 
    • Evaluate patients hourly in Cardiac Critical Unit e.g. their overall health status, to include vital signs etc. and act swiftly according to the findings.
    • Perform various nursing procedures as outlined in the Nursing Council Procedure Manual.
    • Perform diagnostic tests such as electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, stress tests, Holter monitors, and other tests to evaluate heart function.
    • Prepare patients for surgery pre-operatively to include cleaning and disinfection of surgical sites, administration of pre-operative medications, etc.
    • Administer routine intravenous medications as per the set time ordered by the physician/surgeon.
    • Perform diagnostic tests such as electrocardiograms (EKGs), echocardiograms (ECHOs), stress tests, Holter monitors, and other tests to evaluate heart function.
    • Provide and ensure appropriate health teaching and emotional support to all patients, their families, and visitors, to include treatment options while maintaining confidentiality of patients’ information.
    • Do accurate documentation and keep proper records of all of his/her patients.
    • Provide effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
    • Maintain and practice infection prevention guidelines at all times.
    • Ensure safety in the work-place by maintaining a clean, safe, and pleasant environment.
