    Role Purpose Statement:

    Under the general direction and guidance of the Chief Pilot, the First Officer is responsible forconducting flights in compliance with KCARS and Jambojet standards, focusing on specific aircraft type procedures, limitations, and performance. This role includes ensuring the safety and security of crew members, passengers, and cargo from pre-flight to post-flight, while contributing to an exceptional passenger experience and maintaining operational efficiency.

    Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

    • Ensure crew, passenger, and cargo safety by strictly adhering to safety, security, and emergency standards.
    • Assist in planning, executing, and supervising company flights compliant with legal and company policies for safe, efficient operations.
    • Adhere to and enforce operational procedures and checklists as per the Company Operations Manual.
    • Oversee aircraft and equipment serviceability, including supervising maintenance activities when away from base.
    • Regularly assess weather forecasts and operational minima to ensure safe flight conditions.
    • Respond effectively to emergency situations, making critical safety decisions.
    • Confirm safe aircraft navigation and continuous monitoring of geographical position and terrain clearance.
    • Support and assist the captain in leading and directing the operating crew, maintaining discipline and performance.
    • Manage passenger safety by overseeing briefing on emergency procedures and safety equipment.
    • Manage flight documentation and aircraft library, ensuring accuracy and completeness before and after flights, and maintain journey logbooks and operational records.
    • Maintain effective communication within the flight operations team and with other departments, and provide comprehensive flight reports.
    • Continuously seek and engage in skill and knowledge enhancement relevant to the First Officer’s role.

    • Technical Knowledge: Expertise in flight operations, aircraft systems, and international air legislation.
    • Management Skills: Proficient in supervising flight operations and managing safety and compliance.
    • Human Relations Skills: Effective communication and collaboration with crew members and ground staff.
    • Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with emergency procedures, aircraft documentation, and regulatory standards.

    • Thinking Environment: Dynamic and often high-pressure, requiring quick adaptation to changing flight conditions.
    • Thinking Challenge: Balancing stringent safety procedures with operational efficiency and customer service.

    • Freedom to Act: Operates under the supervision of the PIC and within the framework of aviation regulations and company policies.
    • Magnitude: Direct impact on flight safety, operational success, and passenger satisfaction.
    • Impact of Decisions: Decisions and actions significantly affect the safety and efficiency of flight operations.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Education: Minimum educational qualification of mean grade C or equivalent; higher qualifications are an added advantage.
    • License: Kenyan CPL with Multi IR (Instrument rating), ATPL will be an added advantage
    • Experience: A minimum of 500 hours. Accident/incident-free record preferred.
