THE ROLE
The Program Manager oversees the effective implementation of the Lake Victoria Water Agroforestry Carbon Project using TREES Forest Garden Approach. This includes strategic coordination of the mobilization of Farmer Groups and Lead Farmers, ensuring proper training and technically supporting Project Officers and maintaining high standards in project execution, monitoring, and evaluation. S/HE coordinates training schedules, mentors Project Officers, and provides strategic leadership to ensure adherence to work plans and project timelines. This role also supervises data collection efforts, ensures accurate farmer registration. S/He maintains strong communication with stakeholders, including government agencies and community representatives, while identifying opportunities for new projects and staffing. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Mobilize Farmer Groups and Lead Farmers for participation in the Projects and ensure that farmers have full understanding of the Lake Victoria Water Agroforestry Carbon Project.
- Identify and schedule necessary training modules for Project Officers and Assistant Project Officers.
- Coordinate with MEL team to ensure project officers are properly registering farmers and collecting all M&E data required through TREES mobile app. In addition, follow up with the MEL team and project officers to correct any inaccuracies or provide additional training.
- Attend lead farmers meetings and share minutes, reports and deliberations of such meetings with the Assistant Director of Field Programs.
- Work with Project Officers to provide timely work plans indicating operational support needed.
- Supervise, and disseminate all necessary information in a timely manner to the Project Officers where needed.
- Conduct seeds and material estimates for all farmer groups in collaboration with Project Officers and coordinate with the Seed Bank Manager for procurement and distribution of seeds and materials.
- Ensure proper Communication, documentation and reporting of field activities and regularly update the Director of Field Programs.
- Ensure project officers follow work plans and training modules and troubleshoots to find solutions if delays occur.
- Mentor Project Officers, Assistant Project Officers and Lead Farmers, through training and regular follow-up support, on TREES’ technical best practices.
- Assist the County Trainers in facilitating Training of the Project Officers and Assistant Project Officers.
- Together with the Project Officers make regular follow-ups of implementation of project activities within the region.

THE ROLE
The Field Operations Senior Manager will support the Director of Field Programs supervise, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate all aspects of Trees for the Future’s (TREES) Kenya field programs. The Field Operations Senior Manager is a key Program leader responsible for the operational success of the Lake Victoria Watershed Agroforestry Carbon Project using TREES Forest Garden Approach. This position reports to the Director of Field Programs and is based in Kisumu with extensive travel between the counties of Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori and Siaya.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Implementation and Management
- Oversee the implementation of all country field programs, including project management, staff supervision, compliance with donor requirements, effective communication, resource management, and coordination to ensure timely program execution.
- Be responsible for the successful implementation and management of the Forest Garden Approach.
- Facilitate the identification, planning, and rollout of new TREES projects, including identifying new strategic locations and partners to develop initiatives in coordination with the Director of Field Programs.
- Monitor all projects to ensure they meet milestones, goals, scope, timeline, and budget, providing timely feedback to the Director of Field Programs.
- Communicate regularly and visit projects to ensure project effectiveness, identify farmers’ needs and requirements, and coordinate procurement preparation for all programs.
Budgeting, Procurement and Resource Management
- Coordinate the preparation of country program budgets, outline resource requirements and utilization, and present them to the Director of Field Programs for approval.
- Identify procurement needs for programs and work closely with the senior accountant to ensure timely procurement of items related to field country programs.
Training Technical Support and Capacity Building
- Work closely with the Training Department to enhance staff and partner capacity, establish training centers, and strengthen existing training and seed center.
- Ensure technical staff are trained in project methodologies, responsibilities, monitoring and evaluation, and expectations.
- Work closely with the seed bank to ensure high-quality tree seed collection, quality checks, germination tests, seed consolidation, and distribution to projects in a timely manner.
- Provide technical support and leadership to partners and communities implementing TREES’ partnership programs, ensuring compliance with standards, reporting, and timely delivery of activities.
Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL)
- Work closely with the ME&L coordinator and HQ Director to establish monitoring and evaluation schedules, training frameworks, and coordinate field data collection and MEL reports.
- Supervise the collation and review of all reporting data to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Ensure technical staff, partners, and MEL data are properly collected and submitted to HQ through relevant systems and channels.
Partnerships and External Relations

THE ROLE
The County Trainer will work with the Training and Technical teams to ensure Program staff have the knowledge and competencies needed to train and mentor farmers in TREES Forest Garden Approach. The Country Trainer provides expertise in regenerative agriculture and agroforestry practices as well as in training, facilitation and extension work. This role requires significant time traveling and working in the field. This role reports to the Country Trainer.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to the development of county-level training program plans and budgets.
- Plan, organize, and facilitate trainings (e.g. training of trainers, refresher trainings, seed collector training, etc.) to staff, partners, farmers, and other stakeholders as required.
- Observe training events to evaluate technicians’ facilitation skills, technical knowledge, and understanding of the Forest Garden Approach; document evaluation feedback, develop plans, and follow up as needed to build technician capacity in training and extension.
- Facilitate the roll-out and management of initiatives led by the training and technical team in the field.
- Visit farmers and Forest Garden sites regularly to monitor project implementation, observe technical quality, verify accuracy of data collected, and identify and propose initiatives that will enhance farmer adoption and quality of Forest Gardens.

THE ROLE
- The Regional Coordinator (RC) will oversee the administration and operations of the Forest Garden Approach Project within their assigned counties, ensuring seamless coordination between regions to maximize carbon offsets, farmer adaptation, and the multiple benefits of the Forest Garden Approach. This role works closely with the Finance, Procurement, and Operations teams to facilitate efficient processes between the Head Office in Kisumu and regional offices. The Regional Coordinator will work as part of a team of Officers and support staff in their assigned region. The Regional Coordinator reports to the Director of Finance and Operations (DFP).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Regional Coordination Specific Responsibilities
- Provide administrative and operations support to the Program Managers in coordinating the overall project implementation across the counties to ensure that activities are carried out in a timely manner and within budget.
- Support the Program Managers and Project Officers to monitor and review their budgets on a regular basis and work with the accountant with support of the Director of Finance and Operations (DFP) to institute corrective measures for any anomalies that may arise.
- Support in the hiring of highly qualified Officers in collaboration with the Human Resource Business Partner to establish and manage projects as needed.

THE ROLE
The Assistant Project Officer (APO) is responsible for sensitizing, recruiting, contracting and developing the capacity of smallholder farmers for the Lake Victoria Agroforestry Carbon Project in Kenya. The APO works in accordance with TREES Forest Garden Approach to ensure quality and effective project implementation. Assistant Project Officer reports to the Project Officer.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Undertake scouting and documentation of potential project areas for expansion, mobilize and recruit farmers for the Lake Victoria Watershed Agroforestry Carbon Project.
- Support stakeholder and farmer dialogue and consultative meetings with project farmers and organize farmers into groups.
- Provide relevant training and skills development to farmers on the Forest Garden Approach agroforestry model and as per TREES’ training framework.
- Provide Forest Garden extension services, field visits and coordinate the establishment of Forest Gardens.
- Undertake monthly data collection, participate in regular Field Area Measurements and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) activities in accordance with the laid-out schedules to collect data for the project.
- Update and maintain farmer records through TREES Taroworks data collection app.
- Support and organize monthly Lead Farmer meetings and advise farmers on the best Forest Garden farming practices.
- Sensitize farmers on farmer carbon contracts requirements, administer farmer contracts, monitor and report on farmer carbon contract administration.
- Collaborate with the Project Officers to inform project reports and plans for all participating Farmer Groups that account for all Project activities, material acquisition and distribution, training events, monitoring & evaluation.

THE ROLE
The Project Officer (PO) is responsible for coordinating the execution activities within specific Projects in the Program covering all technical aspects such as empowering Assistant Project Officers (APOs) to assist farmers in improve their farming practices within the Lake Victoria Watershed Agroforestry Carbon Project. The Project Officer champions the adoption of TREES Forest Garden Approach in farmlands, collaborates with the Program Manager in overseeing the successful implementation of Agroforestry Carbon Project standards. This involves farmer recruitment, contracting and developing the capacity of small holder farmers to ensure quality and effective project implementation. The Project Officer reports to the Program Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate and sensitize stakeholders, identify and document potential areas for project expansion.
- Mobilize Farmers, organize farmers into groups and consultatively identify Lead Farmers for participation in the project in accordance with TREES guidelines.
- Manage all farmer training, extension and M&E activities in accordance with the training and M&E program of activities.
- Sensitize farmers about the Lake Victoria Agroforestry Carbon Project, the critical requirements and standards of the project and ensure Free Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) and that farmers are able to willingly join the project and sign carbon contracts easily.
- Organize and execute farmer training events pursuant to TREES training program design and training framework.
- Sensitize lead farmers and other stakeholders on the contents of the farmer carbon contracts, engage Lead Farmers to have all Carbon contracts signed by individual farmers and regularly report on the progress.
- Collaborate with the Program Manager to develop project reports and work plans for all participating farmers on a weekly basis.
- Update and maintain farmer tree planting records and other M&E data through TREES Taroworks App.
- Communicate with Lead Farmers and participating farmers regularly to organize and accomplish training and extension activities on a timely manner.
- Mentor participant farmers and Lead Farmers, through training and provide technical backstopping and follow up activities to ensure implementation of Forest Gardens to the required standards.

THE ROLE
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Assistant will work closely with MEL team and GIS Analyst, to develop and deploy the TREES Lake Victoria Agroforestry watershed project monitoring system as well as collaborate with the Field staff at the regional level to undertake all MEL activities (trainings, data collections, data analysis, technical support among others ) that directly improves on TREES Lake Victoria Agroforestry watershed project implementation and farmers’ success. The MEL-Assistant will report to the MEL- Coordinator.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor and evaluate overall progress on achievement of results
- Work closely with MEL- Coordinator in coordinating field monitoring, evaluation & learning (MEL) activities.
- Regularly collect data from project sites
- Conduct interviews with participants for case studies and communications purposes
- Represent MEL endeavors by participating in planning activities.
- Notify field staff of upcoming data collection activities, its processes, and content
- Track project data and communicate key metrics to project staff
- Prepare reports monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual progress on all project activities to the MEL Manager and the Director of MEL.
- Provide feedback to the Country Director, Director of Field Programs and field officers on project strategies and activities
- Notify the Director of Field Programs and Country Director of issues and risks encountered.
- Review data and perform data cleaning as necessary.
- Monitor and maintain project database.
- Participate in training field officers on all MEL systems and applications
- Oversee all data collection (Field Area Measurement, Biodiversity Assessment, Polygon taking) activities.
- Analyze all collected data and present results to the Country Program teams and MEL Director
- Offer periodical refresher training on any upcoming surveys and data collection activities to the technical field staff.

REQUIREMENTS
- An undergraduate Degree in the field of statistics, social science, Information technology or any other relevant academic discipline.
- At least two years of experience in the design and implementation of MEL in development projects implemented by national/international NGOs/UN bodies/ Government.
- Proven ICT skills, especially in the navigation of Android technology and web-based databases
- Expertise in analyzing data using statistical software.
- Experience in analysis and production of reports
- Experience with data quality assessments and oversight
- Experience managing and providing ongoing training to MEL field officers.
- Experience in planning and managing surveys.
- Fluency in written and spoken English, Swahili is preferred or local language an added advantage.
