It is essential for every child to cultivate their skills in a clean, secure, and supportive environment. It is a teacher's responsibility to ensure that the needs of the ‘whole child’ are addressed and that they are the first individuals a student approaches for assistance or guidance. Our Teachers will also be responsible for delivering instruction in their subject areas at Flying Kites Leadership Academy, fostering genuine interest and enthusiasm, and striving for excellence for all students in their class and the school as a whole. Furthermore, they will adapt general education lessons and teach a range of subjects. The teacher will report to the Head of School regarding their teaching duties and responsibilities within the institution. They will set objectives and services for each student and hold discussions with the school social worker, counselors, parents/guardians, and school administrators to provide updates on the students.

● Set and uphold behavioral expectations in the classroom, managing student behavior using positive discipline strategies
● Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment, maintaining a tidy and orderly classroom
● Design effective lesson plans and projects that meet learning objectives, aligned to curriculum standards and FK approach
● Deliver engaging instruction using a variety of visual/audio strategies to facilitate learning, accommodating the diverse needs of learners and different learning styles
● Deliver individualized instruction and remediation for students in need
● Develop teaching aids and learning materials to meet the learning styles and interests of learners
● Develop assessments, administer and grade assessments aimed at measuring learning progress
● Make appropriate use of assessment data, providing feedback and making adjustments for improvement in teaching and learning
● Maintain accurate records of students' attendance, behavior, performance, and records of critical incidents
● Support students to explore career pathways, to discover and nurture their talents and learning opportunities
● Plan and execute educational in-class and outdoor activities and events, including co-curricular activities
● Regularly communicate with parents and caregivers through the established FKA communication channels; pro-actively engaging parental participation in learning
● Observe and understand students’ behavior and report suspicions of violence, neglect, or any form of abuse
● Collaborate and maintain positive relationships with parents, students, and other stakeholders
● Continuously develop and enrich professional skills and knowledge through self-directed learning and FKA professional development activities
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
● Responsibility for management and supervision of daily duties, including but not limited to supervision of assemblies, school meals, student arrivals, and dismissals
● Participate in FKSN school network activities, modeling FK practices and learning from network schools
● Contribute to special projects at Flying Kites, participate in working committees
● Collaborate with the social work team in providing appropriate guidance and counseling to students
● Advance the mission of FK by participating in activities and responsibilities consistent with building, upholding, and promoting our mission and vision
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
● Over four years of experience in Kenyan organizations in a child-centric CBO, NGO, or school setting, Facilitating Learning in: English, CRE & Creative Arts.
● A holder of a Bachelor's of Education or a Diploma in Education-English Literature, MUST be TSC Registered.
● Teachers with experience in Middle & Junior school leadership are encouraged to apply
● Reliable, excellent work ethic and time management
● Strong classroom management skills
● Strong subject expertise in at least three learning areas
● Demonstrated knowledge and skills of the CBC delivery approach and other best teaching practices
● Demonstrated knowledge and skills in ICT, and integration in teaching and learning
● Firm commitment to safeguarding and child protection
● Skills and flexibility to work with a variety of students across grades and ability levels
● Active listening skills, understanding, and adapting to students’ various learning needs
● Strong written and spoken communication, and oral presentation skills
● Leadership skills; problem-solving, adapting to positive change, commitment to excellence, and best practice
● Knowledge of CPR is an added advantage
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
● An incident-free Children’s Check and National Police Check (Certificate of Good Conduct) is a strict condition of employment and must be provided at time of hire and updated on request, consistent with the organization’s risk management procedures.
● Consistent with the nature of this position, weekend and after-hours work is expected and required to meet organizational priorities.
● Occasional outside normal travel may be required.
● Additional responsibilities may be assigned to support coverage for domestic staff and other colleagues who are absent, on holiday or personal leave.

● All Kenya-based positions are based in Njabini, Kenya and subject to occasional interruptions in power and/or Internet access.
● All of our programs and objectives serve children from preschool through young adults. Our workplace is thus regularly accessed and impacted by children.
