Job Purpose
- The EHS Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all environmental, health, and safety programs across the retail stores, central warehouse facilities, garages, butchery, bakery, and warehouses. This role ensures compliance with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards, World Bank EHS guidelines, and IFC Performance Standards on Occupational Health and Safety (PS2), Resource Efficiency and Pollution Prevention (PS3), and Community Health, Safety, and Security (PS4).
Key roles and responsibilities
- Develop, update, and implement EHS policies aligned with ISO 14001 and 45001 standards and ensure company-wide communication and compliance.
- Collaborate with site managers to lead statutory EHS audits across all sites and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
- Conduct risk assessments, implement mitigation measures, and maintain a current risk register
- Ensure all incidents are investigated, corrective actions implemented, documentation maintained and oversee WIBA claim resolution.
- Deliver and evaluate EHS training for all staff, maintaining accurate training record.
- Track EHS KPIs, analyze trends, and provide monthly performance reports to management.
- Manage the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and maintain MSDS compliance.
- Coordinate emergency plans, lead drills, and ensure readiness of emergency systems and training.
- Ensure regulatory compliance, manage reporting, and represent the organisation during audits.
- Drive initiatives to reduce energy, water usage, and waste in line with IFC PS3.
Education Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
Professional Qualification- Desirable
- Certification in EHS management (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH)
Work Experience requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in EHS management, preferably in a retail or manufacturing environment.

- Train 100% of employees annually, with at least 85% scoring above the pass threshold in assessments.
- Complete risk assessments for 100% of high-risk areas and close 90% of hazards within 14 days.
- Submit 100% of regulatory reports on time with zero non-compliance citations annually.
- Reduce energy and water consumption per unit by 10% annually and divert 60%+ of waste from landfill.
- Conduct two emergency drills per site yearly and inspect 100% of emergency equipment quarterly
- Achieve 70% staff participation in EHS programs and gather 50+ safety suggestions each quarter.
