Legal Officer (Location: Sotik) in Rest of Kenya

This role will have the overall responsibility for offering support in the provision of legal expertise and guidance on legal issues to the companies enabling departments to operate within the confines of the law, minimise legal risks and protect its interests.

1. Provide accurate and timely legal advice to the company on various matters, including contracts, regulations, policies, and procedures. Interpret and explain legal issues to management and staff members.

2. Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines applicable to the company’s operations. Stay updated with changes in legislation and inform the company about any potential impact on its activities.

3. Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements, such as client contracts, vendor agreements, employment contracts, and general MOUs & agreements. Identify legal risks and recommend necessary modifications to protect the company's interests.

4. Conduct legal research on specific areas of law relevant to the company's operations. Stay informed about precedents, legal developments, and best practices. Prepare legal opinions and memos based on research findings.

5. Assist in managing litigation matters, including drafting legal documents, coordinating with external lawyers, and representing the company in court or alternative dispute resolution processes. Work closely with external legal counsel when necessary.

6. Develop, review, and update the company's policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and risk mitigation. Provide guidance on the implementation and enforcement of policies within the company.

7. Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance legal awareness among employees. Provide guidance on legal issues, ethics, and compliance to ensure a strong understanding of legal requirements across the company.

8. Monitor regulatory requirements and assist in obtaining necessary licenses, permits, and approvals. Liaise with regulatory bodies and government agencies on legal matters and ensure timely submission of reports and filings.

9. Maintain accurate and up-to-date legal records, contracts, and other legal documents. Implement effective document management systems to ensure easy retrieval and proper storage of legal documents.

10. Identify and assess legal risks associated with the company's activities and propose risk mitigation strategies. Collaborate with other units within and outside the department, to address legal risks proactively.

11. Interact with external stakeholders, such as clients, government agencies, regulatory bodies, and legal professionals, to represent the company's legal interests and negotiate agreements or settlements when required.

Qualification & Experience Required:

1. At least two (2) years’ relevant post admission experience in the public or private sector

2. Bachelors of Laws (LL.B) from a recognized institution

3. Post-graduate Diploma in Law

4. Advocate of the High Court of Kenya

5. Valid Advocates practicing certificate

6. Member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing

7. Certified Secretary (CS) will be an added advantage

8. Proficiency in Computer Applications
