Main purpose of job:

The British High Commission in Dar es Salaam, is seeking a self-starter, versatile and energetic person to join our Technical Works Group (TWG) Team as a Plumber. The TWG team is part of Estates Team responsible for the maintenance and building work for the High Commission’s Office and Residential properties.

We are looking for highly motivated individual who is committed to service delivery and working as part of a team. They will need to quickly familiarise themselves with the High Commission’s working practices and policies, but also find creative and pragmatic solutions to challenges. They will need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and willing to learn.

Roles and responsibilities

  • To install, maintain, and repair of plumbing fixtures, pipes, and water systems.
  • To have ability to define property blueprints to evaluate layout for plumbing installations and other systems.
  • To perform cutting, welding, and assembling of pipes, tubes, fittings, and fixtures.
  • To perform a thorough inspection and testing of plumbing systems for safety, functionality, and code compliance.
  • To collaborate with contractors, construction workers, and electricians to meet plumbing requirements.
  • To clean and disinfect domestic water tanks and services.
  • To conducti water treatment services.
  • To process knowledge on installation and maintenance of water plants and swimming pools.
  • To participate in learning and development activities that develop personal effectiveness and assist in improving performance in the role.
  • To be ready to attend or participate in the delivery of Out of Hours call out service in accordance with organisation policies and procedures.
  • To work subject to deadlines involving changing problems, circumstances or demand.
  • To perform other tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience   
  • Having college, trade school education from reputable institution.
  • 2 years minimum experience
  • Experienced and ability to attend and rectify plumbing faults and emergencies.
  • Reliable, detailed oriented, highly organized, and capable of handling several tasks.
  • A thorough understanding of the plumbing industry and code compliance.
  • Efficient skills and knowledge in using plumbing tools and testing equipment
  • IT Literate.
  • Ability to manage own time and workload.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience   
  • Having clean and valid driving license
  • Health and Safety certification/courses
  • Experienced and ability to attend and rectify plumbing faults and emergencies.
