We are looking for a ‘Special Educational Needs Coordinator’, who will be responsible for overlooking and leading the provision, to support students in achieving their full potential. He or she will play a vital role in creating and accommodating the diverse needs of all students, including those with disabilities and learning challenges, by providing an environment where their abilities can be nurtured and developed. The responsibilities will include delivering high-quality teaching, developing engaging curriculum materials, offering guidance and fostering strong relationships with students, parents and teaching professionals.

Eco Moyo is a private primary school nestled in the serene Dzunguni village of rural Kenya - two hours north of Mombasa. As an independent grassroots project since 2013, Eco Moyo has evolved into a hub for various collaborative projects in architecture, engineering, agriculture and art, all focused on the same mission of creating a sustainable learning environment and promoting environmental awareness. The school is registered with The Ministry of Education and all teachers are certified by national standards. We follow the national curriculum, catering for classes from PP1 to Grade 6, with an average class having 25 students per teacher. We aim to inspire our students to become independent thinkers and responsible team players.
Responsibilities
Conducting Assessments
- Conducting assessments to identify specific learning disabilities or difficulties, and to assess students progress and monitor their ongoing needs.
- Collecting information from various sources including school records, parents, classroom observations and other professionals to help with identifying individual learning needs.
Creating an Inclusive Learning Environment
- Create and provide resources that reflect on the students diverse learning needs, backgrounds and experiences.
- Foster a safe classroom environment where all learners feel secure, valued and respected regardless of their disability and/or additional learning needs.
- Providing direct instructional support to students that need help.
- Provide small groups or one to one support for students who need individualised support or remediation.
Differentiated Instruction
- Modify teaching strategies, lesson plans and assessments to meet varied learning needs, abilities and interests of all students including those with learning disabilities and advanced abilities.
- Provide individual visual aids, hands on learning opportunities or one on one support for learners that require additional help.
Collaboration and Teamwork
- Work with teachers and other education professionals to ensure that learners with special needs receive appropriate support
- Collaborate with parents to better understand their child's needs and progress, by ensuring a positive and supportive home- school partnership.
Providing Teacher Training and Support.
- Offer ongoing training for teachers on inclusive teaching practices, classroom management for diverse learners, and how to create an inclusive environment.
- Work alongside teachers in classrooms to provide coaching, modelling, and mentoring on inclusive strategies.
Data Collection and Reporting
- Collect and analyse data on student progress to assess the effectiveness of the strategies being used, and make recommendations for improvement.
- Provide regular reports to school leadership, parents, and relevant stakeholders about student outcomes, progress on individualised education plans (IEP), and the effectiveness of inclusive practices.
Requirements
- Training on Special Education Needs (SEN) is essential.
- A background in teaching either at Early Childhood Development Education or Primary education will be an added advantage.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and engage with all stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of inclusive education practices and learning disabilities.
- Proven experience working with students with different abilities and educational needs.
- Knowledge of assistive tools to support diverse learners.
- Experience in developing and implementing individualised education plans (IEPs).
