ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Production
• Supervises and coordinates the activities of the plant to ensure safety, quality, and production goals are met or exceeded
• Ensures all machinery in the plant are in perfect working condition
• Communicates and disseminates information among production staff
• Leads problem solving sessions to solve production, quality and safety issues
• Monitors machine parts, production supplies and production equipment to maintain their good working order
• Recognises waste streams and minimises waste generation through prudent use of materials, proper disposal and segregation
• Understands emergency procedures, equipment, and systems, and is able to implement contingency plans
• Works to reduce waste, spoilage and downtime
• Creates, implements and ensures adherence to shift schedule. Shift schedule will include work station assignments/rotations, employee training, employee vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignments, back-up for absent employees, and shift rotations.
• Reviews shift schedules to ensure optimisation of set up changes
• Coordinates production start-ups, shutdowns, and changeovers
• Evaluates products to ensure compliance with established quality control standards. Makes adjustments as necessary during shifts.
Quality Control and Assurance
• Products are in line with specifications
• Supports the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the integrated and food safety systems
People Management
• Supervises Production Technicians and Shift Leaders, and ensures the quality of work meets with performance expectations
• Assigns tasks and responsibilities to the Production Technicians and Shift Leaders to ensure effective workflow
• Reviews/inspects work carried out by subordinates
• Recognises training needs and facilitates the on-the-job training and development of subordinates’ skills to ensure a continued high level of production and morale
• Conducts employee performance reviews
• Coordinates with Human Resources to ensure appropriate staffing levels
Integrated Management System
• Documents, implements and maintains the requirements of the Quality, Food Safety, Environment, Health and Safety management systems.
• Maintains a safe and secure work environment by correcting unsafe acts/conditions, facilitating safety meetings, looking out for hazards, and investigating accidents
• Ensures plant policies and procedures, job safety analysis, and standard operating procedures are adhered to
• Implements and maintains 5s work culture
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Required Education
• Minimum of a First Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Required Experience
• Minimum of 7 years’ experience, 5 of which must be in a similar role within the manufacturing industry
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a supervisory role
