About the Role:
• We are seeking a dedicated professional to work primarily with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) while also supporting individuals with other conditions, including adults.
• The therapists should be able to diagnose and manage speech and language problems and conditions, and help people effectively.
• Services will be delivered in diverse settings including our therapy centre, clients' homes and to our clients in schools. Different channels of communication will be also used.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assessment and Evaluation:
o Conduct comprehensive speech, language, and communication assessments or children with ASD and other clients with communication challenges.
o Develop individualized therapy plans based on individual’s unique needs and goals, and inform caregivers about client’s situation
2. Intervention and Therapy:
o Provide evidence-based speech and language therapy sessions including support for swallowing among the challenged.
o Utilize Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) systems where necessary.
o Address social communication, pragmatics, and functional communication skills.
3. Collaboration:
o Work closely with parents, caregivers, teachers and other professionals to support the child’s development.
o Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to track progress and adjust interventions.
4. Documentation:
o Maintain detailed records of assessments, therapy sessions, and progress reports.
5. Training and Support:
• Offer relevant training sessions for parents, caregivers and teachers to help them consistently implement communication strategies to clients effectively.
• Provide group with therapy sessions with peers, other groups and families.
Skills and Attributes:
• Strong understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and its impact on communication.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, listening and problem-solving skills.
• Empathy, patience, and excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Proficiency in developing and implementing Augmentatives and Alternative Communications. (ACC)
• Ability to adapt diverse innovative therapy techniques in diverse settings (centre, home & school).
• Flexibility to travel for home visits and school-based interventions.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development in ASD and speech therapy.
Qualifications
• Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences accredited by licencing authority.
• Licensure and Certification:
• Valid license or certification in speech-language pathology by Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Kenya (ASLTK).
